Your Weekend Starts Here! So What’s In Store On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

After the FA Cup fanfare it’s back to the bread and butter of the National League on Saturday. And what a tasty set of fixtures we’ve got lined up for your consumption.

Two of the division’s big guns collide while there’s a relegation six pointer on offer. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store.

The season may not be panning out exactly how they expected, but Chesterfield are still a huge draw.

Wrexham know all about the challenges this league throws up and ahead of their meeting at the Proact on Saturday, Martin Allen has called the Red Dragons the best side he has seen this season.

Both want promotion of course but on the minds of two of the sides at the other end is simply staying around for another year.

Braintree meet Dover Athletic and Iron stand-in boss Hakan Hayrettin will believe three home points would put one hand of the Cressing Road job full time. They are the National League’s bottom two and defeat for either could spell problems.

It’s title chaser vs survival hopeful a few miles down the road - struggling Dagenham tackle Harrogate Town, who are exceptional away from home.

There’s another top and bottom focus just up the road from that one as well.

Leyton Orient may have only won one of their last four games in all competitions but what Havant & Waterlooville would do for their four points from three games.

Out of the FA Cup to Met Police, the Hawks haven’t won since early September. They require a show of strength in the East End.

Barrow have had ownership news this week and the post Paul Casson era starts with a visit from Barnet. Ian Evatt was an angry man as they threw away a 2-0 lead to go down 3-2 at Chorley. How will a tempestuous week conclude in Cumbria?

Boreham Wood and Bromley both went through in the FA Cup and they meet looking to give their top seven chances a shot in the arm.

FC Halifax won for the first time since August in their replay with Eastleigh but Jamie Fullarton is only interested in their first three points in seven weeks.

They host Eastleigh with stand in boss Ben Strevens needing a win to up his chances of getting the job.

Hartlepool United have kept three clean sheets in a row but Matthew Bates still needs more goals from his side. They won’t have it all their own way in front of goal against Sutton United.

The last time leaders Salford City played at home they almost created the biggest headline of the season, narrowly avoiding defeat to bottom club Braintree. Graham Alexander will demand more against Ebbsfleet United.

Maidenhead United welcome AFC Fylde, who have found goals on the road very difficult to come by.

Aldershot are improving every week says their manager Gary Waddock. Can they prove his point with a win up at Gateshead?

Solihull Moors could give a debut to new striker Matt Stenson but they travel to a Maidstone side who have just played Leyton Orient off the park in the FA Cup.
