The former Chester and Altrincham manager has been placed in caretaker charge at the Shay until further notice.
He takes the role on after the departure of Billy Heath last Wednesday. He parted company with Halifax following the home defeat to Leyton Orient.
Just two wins from 19 games had the Shaymen on the ropes - but Yoing was denied the chance to start turning things around when their home game with Dagenham was postponed before kick-off on Saturday.
The stand-in says he will get the squad in the best shape possible for whatever is around the corner.
“This is a really big club and it can go wherever it wants to go,” said Young, who takes over a team four points from safety.
“There are some really good players here and they should be higher in the table - you only have to look at the fans base to know how driven the place is to staying in the league.
“I’m delighted I have got the chance to help out, I’ll be giving it everything I have got - that’s for sure.
“The side seems to be lacking a little in confidence and it would have been nice to have had the chance to build some up against Dagenham but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
“We need to get the club moving in the right direction again.”
