Derby’s reigning under-23 player of the year, he had a standout first-year as a professional.
A regular either at left-back or centre-back, he made twenty-one appearances in Premier League 2 Division 1.
His form also earned international recognition as he was called up to the Scotland under-21 squad, whilst he was also named amongst the substitutes for Derby’s senior team in their final home game of last season against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That all came within a year after Macdonald earned his first professional contract in May 2016 after helping Derby ’s then under-21 squad to the Division 2 title.
He originally joined the bluebirds on loan at the end of November until January 30th, making seven starting appearances.
He was ever-present during his initial two-month spell - his final appearance coming against Brackley Town in the Buildbase FA Trophy last month.
He missed the trip to Torquay United, but is back in time for tomorrow`s home game against Hartlepool United
