Young Makes Harriers Move

By Steve Whitney

Vanarama National League club Kidderminster Harriers have...

....bolstered their defence with the acquisition of former Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday man Matt Young.

Young, 21, began his career on the south coast with a spell lasting more than four years at St Mary’s, rising through the youth ranks to earn a professional contract in 2012.

Though highly-rated, he was unable to make the breakthrough in to the first-team and, after signing for Sheffield Wednesday last summer, joined League Two side Carlisle United on loan where he made twenty appearances between January and May.

Released by Wednesday at the end of last season, he began 2015/16 with Dover Athletic and came up against Harriers in a 3-2 defeat in August, featuring as a second half substitute.

Assured at right-back but also comfortable on the left and in the heart of defence, Young joins initially on non-contract terms and goes in to the squad to face Southport at Aggborough tomorrow.
