But he says that doesn’t mean a thing because the Hawks players are closer than he has even seen a team be.
Young knows all about winning titles. Last season he kept goal as Havant secured the Ryman Premier championship on the final day of the season.
He was a Conference North champion under Liam Watson at AFC Telford back in 2014 too but says it’s still too early in the season to be discussing adding to his medal collection.
“Too soon, far too soon!” smiled the Havant goalkeeper, undisputed Man of the Match as the club stretched third lead by beating Wealdstone 1-0 on Tuesday night.
“I’ve been lucky to be a part of title winning sides. The thing about our side this season is that maybe we aren’t the best team in the league, and maybe we haven’t got the best players.
“But we have a group here who are second to none. We are still a good side, we may not be the best, but good sides wins games. They find a way, and we did that against Wealdstone.
“We’ve got ten games to go, we’re not even thinking about it (the title) to be honest. We’re a tight-knit team who just enjoy playing their football.
“In terms of spirit, this season and last season has beaten the whole lot I have ever been with. What strikes me most is that we really enjoy each other’s company. We may not be the best, but sometimes team spirit will win you more games than you lose.”
And after Tuesday night, if things go their way between now and 10pm in Cornwall, the countdown could be on.
“We have got a very, very big week,” said Young, who spent seven years as AFC Telford United.
“Hampton on Saturday and then Truro City away on Tuesday night. These are two crucial games in our season. There’s a long way to go yet and we’ve got a tough run in.”
