Young Harriers Urged To Learn From Almighty Collapse

Kidderminster Harriers’ young squad have to learn and quickly after their collapse on Saturday, according to head of coaching Matt Gardiner.

The Worcestershire outfit were superb for 75 minutes against National League North leaders Salford City and looked to be heading to a comfortable 4-0 win.

But the Ammies had other ideas. Four goals in the last ten or so minutes - including a 95th-minute equaliser after a penalty was initially saved by keeper Brandon Hall - left Harriers crestfallen.

Still in fourth but just two points clear of eighth-placed Spennymoor, Gardiner has urged Kiddy to take plenty of lessons from a rollercoaster afternoon.

“It’s very disappointing but I thought we played very well for 75 or 80 minutes and played some excellent football,” Gardiner told us.

“It wasn’t enough to get us over the line and we’ve got to learn from it quickly. We should have seen the game out and we didn’t.

“To be 4-0 up against top of the league was fantastic. It was 4-1 in the 88th minute and to not see out the game is soul-destroying to be honest.

“We’re a very young squad. Our average age is 21 and they’ve got to mange games better going into our final nine matches.”
