Young Dover Show Character To Rescue Last Gasp Point

By David Richardson

Chris Kinnear says his youthful Dover Athletic side showed character to earn a late point at Sutton United last night.

Dover went into the match top of the league after snatching top spot from Sutton at the weekend but there was no separating these two yesterday.

Giancarlo Gallifuoco put the visitors in front after 36 minutes but the U's hit back in the second half, scoring twice in the space of ten minutes to take the lead following goals from Thomas Wright and Kieron Cadogan.

But deep into injury time Manny Parry was the hero for Dover, heading in an equaliser from close range.

"For 70 minutes, until they scored, I thought we were the better side," said Kinnear. "It's not easy on the pitch or the way they play.

"They get in the area and try to win the knock downs. That's not a criticism, we know that's what they're going to do. Disappointed we went two down but there's a lot of character in this side, even though they're young, they have a lot of desire.

"These lads keep going until the end and it's not just the ones on the pitch. It's a joy to be with them.

"Before the game if you could get a draw here, with the investment and experienced players they have, it's a great result but I like to win games."
