You Must Expect The Unexpected In The National League!

By Sam Elliott

It was a day of National League shocks and surprises - the top two lost while Chesterfield in the process ended their astonishing 19 game winless run.

First, Leyton Orient went down 1-0 at Boreham Wood in the live BT Sport game.

It was a result Wood manager Luke Garrard called “absolutely fantastic” as the O’s lost for just the second time this season.

That unexpected result in Hertfordshire set the tone for the day.

Second place Salford City - who hadn’t lost in the league since August - were expected to take advantage in the 3pm kick-off.

But, despite Chesterfield not winning since the second Saturday of the season, they delivered with the pressure was total off.

Manager Martin Allen said his players were outstanding.

“To a man they were magnificent,” said the Spireites boss following the 2-0 win, which saw both goals arrival from Alex Kiwomya.

“Their attitude was amazing and it was a really important win.

“I think there’s a lot more to come from this team.”
