York Bring In Torquay Striker On A Month`s Loan

York City have signed striker James Gray on a month`s loan from National League side Torquay United.

The 25-year-old former Northern Ireland under-21 international goes straight into City's squad for tomorrow’s game at Salford City.

Gray, who was born in Yarm, started his career in Middlesbrough’s youth ranks and played for both Darlington and Kettering Town before stepping back into the Football League with Accrington Stanley in August 2012.

He spent three years playing in League Two, scoring 16 goals in forty-six starts, which also included a spell on loan at Northampton Town.

Gray joined Wrexham for the 2015/16 season and scored 7 goals in fifteen starts. Last season, he played for both Southport and Irish side Glenavon.

He joined Torquay this summer.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jon Worsnop has been given an opportunity to coach the club's senior goalkeepers by manager Martin Gray.

Andy Collett is still the club's lead goalkeeper phase coach with responsibility for developing the club's academy and junior goalkeepers.

"To be first-team goalkeeping coach at a club like York City is huge and I would have been mad to turn my nose up at the opportunity," 34-year-old Worsnop told the club`s official website. "The Gaffer thinks he sees something in me and, if that's where my career is starting to go, then that's where it's going.

"If truth be told, I wasn't looking to go into the coaching side yet - but the opportunity has come now so I want to grab it with both hands.

"If I am needed to go back between the posts, I will pull the gloves back on - but if the Gaffer wants me to keep working with the other keepers, I will do that as well. Whatever my role is, I am happy to be in and around the club," he said.

Worsnop`s previous clubs include Bradford City, Chester City, and Bradford Park Avenue, and arrived at Bootham Crescent in the summer
