On a good Saturday for the club, they won 3-0 against top seven rivals Bradford PA as others around them slipped up.
The gap is closed to three points but they have played a game more than AFC Telford, who currently occupy the final place.
Yates understands fans’ excitement but knows the odds aren’t stacked in Kiddy’s favour.
“We know what we’ve got to do now,” he said after getting on over Avenue, who ended their promotion dream last season.
“We also know and hope things go our way elsewhere as well.
“We need 12 points from our last four games to even have a chance I think. That’s what it will probably take.
“But we’re not going to burden the players with that. We have just got to keeping winning and we will see where it takes us.”
On the win, Yates knows his team got the rub of the green at Aggborough.
“We got that bit of luck in the second half that our first half performance maybe deserved,” he said.
“We got that bit of luck that we haven’t had since I have been here.
“We had to really dig deep and we did that. Thankfully fortune was on our side as well.”
