Wright Loaned To Dragons Until January

By Steve Whitney

Following a week training with the club, Wrexham have welcomed Akil Wright to the Racecourse Ground on loan until January 5th 2018.

The 21-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Sky Bet League One side Fleetwood Town, as part of their development squad, following his transfer to Highbury in March 2015 and they recently triggered an option in his contract to retain his services for a further season.

During this period, he has also enjoyed loan spells with AFC Flyde, scoring twice in four appearances, and then six months at Barrow, playing twenty-four times, including two substitute appearances against the Reds in 2016/17.

Wright, a native of Derby, is a product of the successful Ilkeston academy system, having joined the Robins aged 15, going on to amass some forty appearances for their first-team, all before he turned 19.

His preferred position is as a central midfielder, but he also demonstrated his versatility by breaking through in to the Ilkeston first-team in central defence or right-back.

His performances didn`t go unnoticed and in March 2015 he completed a whirlwind transfer to Fleetwood.

After impressing in The Fishermen’s development side during the weeks following his arrival, he was named as a substitute in the Football League for the first time in April 2015 against MK Dons.
