Wright Delighted With Weekend Tournament

Nuneaton Town manager Tommy Wright, gave his verdict on the UKFlooringDirect.co.uk Challenge Cup, a tournament that was his brainchild and took months of planning and organising.

The games involved young sides from Glasgow Rangers, PSV Eindhoven, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool and Coventry City as well as Nuneaton.

“I was delighted with the way it ran over the weekend,” he said. “With a bit more luck we could have got a few more in; had Rangers not been playing at Sheffield Wednesday on the Sunday for example or if Liverpool had brought a couple of their first-teamers along.

“But I was pleased with how it all went and to have clubs of this stature playing here at the LDJ Solicitors Stadium was fantastic not just for the club but for the town as a whole.

“There was some real quality on show and there is no doubt that supporters will be wearing the names of some of these young lads on the back of their shirts in years to come.

“For us it allowed me to try out two different systems and it gave plenty of food for thought. The players enjoyed being part of it and it was about putting the club back on the footballing map.

“It’s something we’re going to look to do again next year and in years to come.

“A lot of work went into the organisation but it was enjoyable and I’d like to thank everyone who played their part on and off-the-field”.
