The first game and last month’s National League encounter both ended 0-0 but this time Wrexham broke through.
Ricketts said: We had to stay patient against a good side.
“The games between the sides have been tight this season so we knew we had to take our chances when they arrived.
“I’m really pleased - this club hasn’t been past the fourth qualifying round for three years. This is another step in the right direction for everyone.
“The supporters stayed with us and in the end it was a brilliant night.”
Wrexham go to Chesterfield this weekend looking for three National League points.
