Wrexham's Akil-ler Instinct Impresses Boss Hughes

Bryan Hughes has challenged his side to see how far their quality can take them.

Akil Wright's second-half strike against Chesterfield made it four wins in five for new boss Hughes.

Hughes said he knows the qualities his side have and now it's about seeing what they can do with it.

"It’s a massive victory," he told the club's YouTube channel. "We knew it was going to be difficult today against a Chesterfield team that are in really good form.

"It wasn’t a very entertaining game to be honest, but it was a very workmanlike performance. We did what we had to do and when that moment of quality came in the game, we took our chance.

"I know how critical this stage of the season is, I’ve been in many teams where there’s been something to play for come the end of the season.

"It’s about keeping the focus, keeping that commitment and desire because they’ve all got it in abundance. Let’s see how far it can take us."

Hughes' unbeaten start will be under pressure next week as Wrexham head to Leyton Orient for a huge title showdown.

"I couldn’t have dreamt of a better start. But it’s not about me, I’ve said that from day one.

"It’s about trying our best to make this club successful and the players that are going to do that.

"So far they’re doing it. Now it’s about taking every game as it comes. We’ve got Leyton Orient next week, and we’ll go there and hopefully get the right result."
