Wrexham Look To Raven For Experience

By Steve Whitney

Wrexham have signed experienced defender David Raven.

Now 32, Raven`s career started at his home-town club, Liverpool, where he was named the captain of the under-20 side before going on loan to Tranmere Rovers.

Whilst at Anfield, he represented England at under-18, 19 and under-20 level.

Before leaving Liverpool, Raven played three matches for the first-team, including a Carling Cup match against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez recommended Raven moved from being a centre-back to a right-back where he has played for most of his career.

Raven then spent four years at Carlisle United and scored his first professional goal against Leyton Orient as he established himself as the first choice right-back.

Raven had short stints Shrewsbury and back at Tranmere before signing for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2012 where he made his debut against St Mirren in a 2-2 draw.

He went on to make over 150 appearances for Caley, including thirty-one in an historic 2014/15 season as the club finished third and his goal sealed the club`s place in the Scottish Cup Final as he scored in the semi-final against Celtic. Sadly, injury ruled him out of the final.

But he cut short his stint north of the border in an effort to improve his coaching prospects after Inverness were unable to offer him a satisfactory contract.

Raven received a standing ovation as he departed the pitch donning a Thistle jersey for the last time in a 1-1 draw with Livingston having marked his name in club history.
