Wings’ Super Season Should Not Be Forgotten Says King

Steve King plans to use his latest play-off frustration as fuel for next season.

The Welling United manager watched his team lose last Sunday’s National League South Promotion final to Woking.

The 1-0 defeat means the former Whitehawk and Macclesfield manager has lost three times at this stage.

He says he couldn’t have asked any more of his players as they finished third and were ultimately undone by Armani Little’s incredible free-kick.

King wants to try and channel his frustration the right way - even if it will take some getting over.

“It was very hard to take for everyone, especially when you are not second best,” he said.

“We threw everything at Woking and they got that little bit of luck which you need in those type of matches.

“If felt we deserved more - it’s the manner of defeats which gets to you the most.

“But we have got to try and look forward now and try to go one better next time.

“That’s the only thing you can do - it shouldn’t be lost what an incredible achievement it was to finish third in the toughest National League South division there has ever been.

“The players have been incredible and they deserve so much credit.”
