Wings Boss Rod Wants To Play The Entertainer!

Rod Stringer says he wants to leave Welling United fans on the edge of their seats next season.

After keeping the Wings up last season, the manager is desperate for his team to kick on next time around.

Stringer replaced Danny Bloor in late January, taking over with less than three months to go with the club deep in the relegation mire.

They eventually ended the campaign eight points above the drop zone and while it was then all about results and nothing else, he has used this summer to reinvent the Kent club’s style.

A number of new faces have arrived at Park View Road and Stringer wants style as well as substance to build on what was achieved last time out.

“We’ve got some really good footballers at the club at the minute,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“Our brand of football next season will be high intensity. I want us to be exciting to watch.

“I think league you have got to be fit, that’s fit with and without the ball. I do think we need topping up a bit.

“We’ve had some trialists play for us in our friendly games and they’ve done well. The plenty of food for thought at the moment.”

So could Welling be pushing for a National League return eight years after their relegation?

“I do believe now with the way the board is set up now and the direction the club are going in, we’re all in it together,” the former Braintree boss said.

“All I can do is give the fans the best squad of players I can within the budget I have got.”
