Will Chesterfield Get Their Champagne Moment Tomorrow?

By Sam Elliott

After waiting six long years, what’s a few more days for Chesterfield fans to hang on?

They will finally get their hands on the National League trophy on Saturday, if they get the point they need against Boreham Wood, or should Barnet drop points against relegation fighters Dorking Wanderers.

The TNT Sports cameras will be there to capture the champions-in-waiting and they could finally get their champagne moment they’ve looked like having for many months.

With just six or seven games to go, the room for error is getting smaller and smaller.

Not too much will be resolved any time soon down the bottom, but Oxford City will be relegated by Easter if results continue to go against them. They take on AFC Fylde on Saturday, who know they need more wins to preserve their own status.

Kidderminster Harriers have won four of their last six away games but are still in the drop zone - can they go to Wealdstone and really boost their survival chances?

It’s not just events at the very top and down the bottom grabbing the attention - the two teams on either side of the play-off divide come together.

It’s Altrincham against Gateshead and you just don’t know how crucial three points could be come April 20 - and it’s not the only massive top seven meeting.

Aldershot Town, in fifth, face fourth place Solihull Moors with both teams looking to cement their position. Tommy Widdrington’s Shots are looking for their fifth home win on the spin but Moors are six without defeat on their travels.

Oldham Athletic have work to do to get in there and won’t find life easy at Dagenham & Redbridge, who have won three from four in front of their fans and know how to take down promotion challengers.

Down at the bottom, York City are facing their most important moment for years - can last week’s late win spur them to survival? They face a tough task at Bromley, who won with ten men for most of their match at Wealdstone on Wednesday.

Eastleigh are sliding and are only three points above the relegation zone. They face Hartlepool United in a match which could tell us quite a lot. They have Paul McCallum back from international duty.

FC Halifax are hitting form at the right time and so are Ebbsfleet United and they meet looking to take a step towards their goals while Rochdale face Maidenhead United and Woking will feel they’ll be almost safe if they leave Southend United with three points.
