Who'll Build On Blistering Starts In The South & North?

By Sam Elliott

After an opening weekend filled with Vanarama National League South and North talking points, part two could prove to be pretty tasty as well.

The rain looks to have cleared so there will be no soggy excuses as the second matchday gets going - but who will the sun be shining on at Step 2 this Saturday?

As welcomes go, Warrington had one to remember, seeing to Southport with ease, pictured. It of course means nothing at this stage sitting top of the Vanarama National League North tree after their goal blitz, but try telling that to Mark Beesley and his players.

They take on fellow fast starters Blyth Spartans next and they also hit four as they got one over Gloucester City on the opening day.

It was quite the day for the division’s new arrivals as South Shields, Scunthorpe and Bishop’s Stortford all won, the Iron meet Peterborough Sports, who also got off to a three point start.

Stortford are at Gloucester as Shields make the trip to Boston United. Spennymoor also won well on day one, they’ve got a home game with Tamworth as Farsley Celtic - the other team to start in style - welcome Chorley.

There’s plenty to keep an eye on in the Vanarama National League South on Saturday too after the goals flowed last weekend. Will we be in for more of the same this time?

Truro City got more than anyone, smashing five beyond helpless Welling United and the White Tigers are hungry for more after the feast on their return. They make the trip to Braintree Town.

Ten teams won on a brilliant first day and Worthing were one of them. Torquay United weren’t, throwing away an advantage at Dover, and they welcome the Rebels looking to put things right.

St Albans started strongly but Yeovil Town couldn’t get it right at Hemel Hempstead - Mark Cooper is urging his players to make amends for defeat when the Saints come to town.

Hampton & Richmond are playing the first month of the season away from home as they get the Beveree pitch ready, they make the trip to Chelmsford. The Clarets defeated Farnborough last week and fancy a promotion tilt again.

Maidstone United have their work cut out at Bath City, while the winner of Taunton Town vs Weston-super-Mare will be eying up top spot and their winning starts.
