The 39-year-old admits the start to the new season has not been ideal with the club struggling to find the consistency that saw them reach the play-offs last season.
Whing’s side have been perhaps nursing a hangover following their Promotion Final heartache.
Two wins from the first seven left them lagging behind the early frontrunners but it’s back-to-back wins now - and three goals in for Conor Wilkinson.
Whing says the 2-1 victory at Rochdale could be a big moment in their campaign and now it’s back-to-back home games with Southend United arriving on Saturday before a visit from York City.
He said: “This was one of my best wins since I have been at the football club.
“In terms of dealing with adversity, like losing Matty Warburton after a minute or so, and with Rochdale’s recent form then you have to say it’s a wonderful result.
“The team really grafted, they were fantastic. Conor has scored two goals and that’s fantastic. He worked his socks off, but so did everyone.
“It’s another really important result for us and we’ve got to keep moving forward now.”
