What’s On Offer Tonight In The National League?

By Steven Coney

Tuesday night is gearing up to be a very important one across the Vanarama National League with key battles in two of our divisions.

We’re approaching the final quarter of the season and at this stage of the campaign, every last point is extremely valuable.

Two relegation-threatened clubs are at home in the National League and the first of those, Barrow, welcome title-chasing Sutton United.

The Bluebirds’ game against Hartlepool fell foul of the weather on Saturday and they remain just a point above the bottom four. They have games in hand but Ady Pennock’s side have to start picking up wins if they want to avoid any late-season drama.

Visiting Sutton will be full of confidence following their 1-0 win at Dover at the weekend. Harry Beautyman saw red but the U’s survived the final half an hour with ten men. A win tonight would put them a point behind leaders Macclesfield.

Bottom club Guiseley are also on home soil as they take on Gateshead. Lions boss Paul Cox may still be confident his side can get out of trouble but these are the sort of games you have to win.

The Heed lost against AFC Fylde on Saturday but have been in decent form of late and are unbeaten in eight away games in all competitions.

In the National League North, AFC Telford United could climb out of the bottom three at the expense of Curzon Ashton, who travel to the New Bucks Head.

Telford comfortably saw off North Ferriby on Saturday whilst Curzon let a three-goal lead at Boston United slip. Both teams have games in hand but there’s no doubt this is a big fixture.

North Ferriby will want an improved performance tonight but they face a tough task at Brackley Town. The Saints are coming off a 3-0 defeat at Blyth and boss Kevin Wilkin will demand a response.

Caretaker manager Mike Fowler will be hoping for a positive first home game in charge tonight as his Tamworth side welcome Blyth Spartans.

Blyth, after that morale-boosting win against Brackley, will be full of confidence whilst Tamworth have struggled of late. The Lambs need to turn things around or they'll be dragged into a relegation dogfight.

Meanwhile, both scheduled fixtures in the National League South were postponed due to waterlogged pitches. East Thurrock’s home clash against Poole Town and Welling United's trip to Bognor Regis Town will both be played at a later date.
