What’s On Offer On Easter Monday In The National League

By Steven Coney

You’ll be sick of the sight of chocolate by now so it’s a good thing we’ve got a full National League programme to look forward to!

Most clubs are returning to action just 48 hours after their Good Friday fixtures and with the end of the season in sight, every point is precious.

The terrible rain has played its part with Barrow against AFC Fylde, Tranmere Rovers' home game against Solihull Moors and Gateshead's trip to FC Halifax Town all falling early this morning.

Sutton United’s game at Maidenhead on Friday was abandoned at half-time but the U’s could potentially close the gap at the top to just three points as they host Bromley in a live BT Sport fixture.

Paul Doswell’s men will be confident ahead of the match at Gander Green Lane but Bromley still hold hopes of sneaking into the top seven.

Macclesfield Town, if the U’s slip-up, could go nine points clear if they beat strugglers Chester at the Moss Rose.

Late, late winners at Woking on Friday, the Silkmen will expect another three points on Monday. Chester look doomed and they have announced that boss Marcus Bignot will be replaced in the summer.

Wrexham are at home too as they welcome fellow promotion hopefuls Boreham Wood for what should be a very interesting fixture at the Racecourse.

The Dragons have been very good at home and Wood haven’t won in three on their travels. Still, Luke Garrard’s side is full of quality.

Monday also provides us with a Kent derby with Dover Athletic travelling to Ebbsfleet United.

This one could have big consequences for both sides. A win for Dover would further strengthen their play-off spot and all but end Fleet’s hopes of a top seven finish. An away victory, however, throws the last play-off spot wide open!

One of the most important games of the day comes from the English Riviera as Woking head to Torquay United.

The Gulls are coming off a win at Chester that gives them hope of completing another great escape but three points on Monday are critical.

Woking have won just twice in the National League since the end of November and are desperate for a victory - they now sit just three points above the bottom four.

Hartlepool United have been told they are not safe - yet. They have been resurgent under caretaker boss Matthew Bates and are nearing safety. But they need to make sure and a win over bottom club Guiseley - who are all but down - would be a big step.

Mid-table Eastleigh are determined not to just play the season out and they could spring a surprise at Aldershot Town.

The Shots are determined to improve their home form and Gary Waddock will want three points on Monday

Elsewhere, Leyton Orient will hope to make it three wins in a row when they welcome Maidenhead United to Brisbane Road.

And Dagenham & Redbridge’s faint hopes of a play-off place will be boosted with a home victory - they welcome Maidstone United.

The Stones, coming off a disappointing defeat to Hartlepool, could do with a win just to ease their relegation nerves.
