What's In Store On Saturday In The National League South?

By Sam Elliott

Just three points separate the top five in the National League South but what has this weekend got to offer?

The top three all have home matches as the tight title race already excites.

Leading the way is Billericay Town, and after their FA Cup blitz of Whitehawk last weekend they will believe they can carry on knocking them in against Gloucester City.

But the Blues should be wary of new manager syndrome. It’s Chris Todd’s first match at the Tigers’ helm, and he’ll be desperate for a good start.

Woking welcome Chelmsford City - a team who much prefer life away from home this season.

Rod Stringer’s team have taken ten points from their last four matches on the road but the Cards have won six of their seven at the Laithwaite’s, so something has to give.

Welling United, up to third, haven’t lost since going down to Billericay on August 14 and in their last seven games in all competitions they have won five.

But Steve King’s side face a team in form - Slough Town have won their last four National League South matches and have made it through two FA Cup rounds in that time. The Rebels are on the rise!

There’s an interesting local derby on Non-League Day as Wealdstone welcome Hampton & RB, who have announced Vince Cable has come on board this week.

Torquay United are much improved under Gary Johnson but the Gulls are still in the lower half of the table.

That will change if they leapfrop Eastbourne Borough with a win along the south coast, while Dartford need to be better on the road - they face a tricky test at Chippenham.

Weston-super-Mare still haven’t won this season in the league. You get the feeling that much change when third-from-bottom East Thurrock visit.

Hungerford are just outside the drop zone. Dulwich Hamlet, strong away from home in September, will feel they can build on that when they head to Bulpit Lane.

Concord Rangers are feeling themselves again after recent improvement.

After three wins in a row, they head to Oxford City, while St Albans City are also in good in the league at least - they welcome Bath City.

Truro City need the points at home to Hemel Hempstead, who will be managed by Jordan Parkes who has three games to impress.
