What’s In Store In The National League South On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

There’s only one place to start as we look ahead to Saturday’s National League South programme.

It could be a record breaking day for Bath City as the much-anticipated visit of Torquay United sucks the area into Twerton Park.

It’s third vs first and two sides who between them have dropped points just once in 17 matches.

Torquay will be backed by nearly 1,500 fans in Somerset - and Bath boss Jerry Gill doesn’t want to be outnumbered.

Chelmsford City’s excellent run was ended last time out but manager Rod Stringer remains optimistic.

A home game with Dartford gives the Clarets the chances to set the record straight, while Welling United look to close the gap with victory over Eastbourne Borough.

Woking are relentless and just won’t let leaders Torquay scamper off into the distance.

But the Cards’ eight-match winning run will be put to the test at St Albans City, despite a few tricky recent results for Ian Allinson‘s side.

Billericay parted with manager Dean Brennan this week after three defeats in four games.

They today confirmed the return of Harry Wheeler with Jamie O’Hara also agreeing to come back as player-assistant.

The fixture list isn’t kind - a visit to Essex rivals Concord Rangers awaits.

There’s a big game at the foot of the table as Weston-super-Mare attempt to drag Truro City back into the dogfight at the bottom with victory in Cornwall.

East Thurrock
remember their last home game with Dulwich Hamlet well.

It was the afternoon where they secured promotion from the Ryman Premier at their expense in the 2016 play-off final.

Now the Rocks are looking to avoid a return to Step 3 and with Hamlet just three places above the drop-zone the pressure is on.

Manager of the Month, Oxford City's Mark Jones, will be confident of ending a slow start to January against Gloucester City, a side without a win since early September.

Wealdstone’s off-field announcement this week has dominated the build up to their game with Hungerford Town but manager Bobby Wilkinson is determined to pick the mood up against his old club.

Hampton were excellent against Dulwich but now need another show of strength at Hemel Hempstead, who sit a place above them in 15th.

Elsewhere Slough Town welcome old Southern League rivals Chippenham with both sides loitering just outside the play-off places.
