What’s Happening On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

With grudge matches and big games at the top and bottom, there’s plenty to keep your eye on this weekend.

There’s a managerial bow too, with Graham Coughlin taking charge of Boston United for the first time. The Pilgrims have not won since early September, so a fast start is certainly required at home to Braintree Town.

The game of the day though comes from the Crown Oil Arena - and it’s always lively when Rochdale host Oldham Athletic. They’re both gunning for promotion, meaning there’s plenty riding on this one.

The battle at the top resumes and Steve Cotterill has urged Forest Green Rovers to put their foot down.

After winning the mammoth match last Saturday its next stop Southend United - Kevin Maher’s side have taken plenty of points off the sides at the top at Roots Hall in recent years.

York City needs to recover from their New Lawn blow by winning at home to Yeovil Town, who suffered their first defeat for seven weeks last time out.

Barnet fans wonder if their recovery at Dagenham could be a title turning point. The Bees are at home to a Woking side who last week ended their two-month long wait for three points.

Gateshead have had some good ground news this week and now they need to stay in amongst it. They’re at Maidenhead United, who have lost their last three.

Ebbsfleet United manager Harry Watling says he will no longer shield his players from criticism. Can they recover from a 6-0 home hammering by securing just their second win when they travel to AFC Fylde?

Solihull Moors inflicted their huge home defeat despite an early red card. Can they carry on from where they left off at home to Hartlepool United?

There will be no FA Cup focus for Tamworth or Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend. The two teams will wish each other luck in the second round but only after their battle for three important points concludes.

Wycombe Wanderers await Wealdstone in a morning kick-off in little over a week. Can they warm up for that tie with another win? Matt Taylor’s men go to Eastleigh, who are winless in eight now.

Aldershot Town find themselves just a point above the relegation-zone and Tommy Widdrington could really do with three points at home to an Altrincham who have registered eight goals in their past two away trips.

FC Halifax Town and Sutton United will have to try again in the weeks ahead due to a frozen pitch.
