What's Happened In The Transfer Market The Last Seven Days?

It’s been a busy week of transfers involving National League clubs - if your eye has been off the ball because of the World Cup, we’re here to help!

There has been a high number of movers and shakers as teams gear up for their return to pre-season training.

With many sides heading back to do some running as early as next week, it’s all about getting squads in place.

The start of the week was a sign of what was to come with a number of transfers being completed across the three divisions.

We’re nearly at the end of the last week before most teams return for pre-season training, and we’ve seen plenty of deals done. Who needs the World Cup!

Here’s Aidan Jones’ run-down of some of the top transfers from the past three days.

Monday

Dan Wishart – made his first signing of the summer, bringing in the 26-year old from Forest Green Rovers. The defender who plays left back signed a two year deal to return Gander Green Lane after leaving for Rovers in 2016.

Alex Finney – Maidstone United were in business early in the week, making Finney their second signing of the summer, following an impressive loan spell for Jay Saunders side. The defender moves from QPR and has signed a two-year deal with the club.

James McQuilkin – National League North side AFC Telford announced the signing of former Kidderminster Harriers midfielder James McQuilkin. The 29-year old is more of an attacking midfielder and lively in the box, and made over 100 appearances for the Kidderminster.

Declan Bacon – New Alfreton Town manager Billy Heath continues the signing spree, welcoming Bottersford Town striker Declan Bacon. The Scunthorpe United futsal coach netted 45 times last season as his former club finished in 8th position.

Delano Sam-Yorke – Dartford completed the signing of the former Maidstone striker, who scored just the one goal for the Stones last season. Prior to joining Jay Saunders side, he played for Woking, Basingstoke, Cambridge United, Lincoln and Forest Green.

Tuesday

Scott Wiseman – Salford City made another step to being ready for the new campaign, signing defender Scott Wiseman on a one-year deal, following his release from Chesterfield, where he made 29 appearances.

Luke Wanadio – Aldershot Town tied up a deal to sign Bromley winger Luke Wanadio for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year old scored seven goals in 40 appearances for the London club last season.

Connor Thompson – Gateshead manager Steve Watson, who signed a new deal at the Heed recently, made his first signing of the summer, bringing in Connor Thompson from FC Halifax Town who signed the midfielder in March.

John Mills – Bath City completed the signing of John Mills from Hereford FC, and won the battle to sign the striker with him turning down several offers to join the National League South side.

Ed Williams – Kidderminster Harriers completed the signing of the 22-year-old midfielder, who spent the previous three seasons playing for rivals Gloucester City, and netted nine goals during the previous campaign.

Wednesday

Josh Gillies – South Shields made their fourth signing of the summer, welcoming Josh Gillies to the club from Darlington, and is the second big name to leave the Evo-Stik NPL Premier club this summer.

James Akintunde– Maidenhead United have signed Chester striker James Akintunde as they look to improve from last season’s league finish. The 22-year old spent two years at the Deva Stadium and becomes the fourth new face at York Road, this summer.

Charlie Carter – It's a heartbreaker for Woking fans. The attacking midfield who scored 12 times last season has left for Chesterfield.

Miles Addison – New Nuneaton boss Nicky Eaden has completed the signing of former Derby County defender who previously played in the Scottish Premier League for Kilmarnock.

Jason Banton – Newly relegated Torquay United have signed up former Leicester City winger Jason Banton. The 25-year old played for Woking FC last season, making 25 appearances for the Cards and joins the Gulls ahead of the new season.

Charlie Clough – Sutton United, have made their statement ahead of the new season, by re-signing Charlie Clough from Barnet who has been released following their relegation out of the EFL. The 27-year old is familiar of the surroundings following playing for the club on two separate occasions, over the past eight years.

Will Puddy
– Chippenham Town, completed a signing late on Wednesday evening, bringing in former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Will Puddy, who previously made 15 appearances for Sutton United in 2017.

Thursday

Niko Muir –Hartlepool United managed to fight off competition from a number of clubs to bring the forward player to Victoria Park. The 24-year old has got a lot to live up to having scored 40 times in the previous campaign.

Asa Hall – Torquay are continuing to build their squad as Gary Owers looks to return back to the National League at the first attempt. The Gulls have welcomed midfielder, Asa Hall to the club, the 37-year old made 37 appearances last term.

James Bowen – Bowen has become the Brakes’ fourth signing of the Summer after arriving from Hereford FC. The versatile player helped Hereford to the Southern League Premier Division title last season but will now look to help Leamington in the National League North.

James Clifton – Arguably, the busiest manager so far this summer has been Alfreton Town manager Billy Heath as continues to bolster his squad for the new season. This time it’s defender James Clifton who has signed for Town from Boston United. The player who can play in midfield if required, has signed a one-year deal at the Impact Arena.

Curtis Obeng –Nuneaton have surprised everyone as they have managed to agree a deal to sign Curtis Obeng in the most surprising of circumstances after he has come out of retirement, last summer.

Sam Togwell -National League South side, Slough Town were the first club to make their move on Togwell, who was released by Eastleigh, after enduring an injury-hit campaign for the Spitfires. The 33-year old links up with his brother Lee who is currently a player coach at the club.

Friday:

Callum Reynolds – Recently relegated Barnet have added to their squad by signing Callum Reynolds after the former Shots captain left the club, turning down an extension, to sign for John Still’s team.

Ryan Crossdale – AFC Fylde broke their club record by signing the England C skipper from Kidderminster Harriers. The 23-year old defender has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the Mill Farm.

Jonny Burn – The Quakers have signed Darlington-born defender from Bristol Rovers on a free transfer after he was released by the Gas in the summer after making just three appearances, following his arrival from Middlesbrough.

Berti Schotteri – Woking have added to their squad ahead of their challenge to return to the National League at the first attempt, signing goalkeeper Schotteri who helped Dartford achieve a second placed finish in the National League South, last campaign.

Anthony Cook – National League South side Dulwich Hamlet have announced the pre-contract agreement to sign Cook at the end of his current deal with Ebbsfleet which expires on 1 July. The midfielder helped the Kent side to promotion to the top tier of non-league in the 2016/17 season.

Owain Jones – Nuneaton Borough welcome their latest new face this summer, in former Swansea City midfielder Owain Jones. The 33-year old had been based in Scotland since he left Norwich City in 2011.

Saturday

Inih Effiong – Chris Kinnear has got his transfer business up and running with the arrival of the striker who spent last season at Woking before they were relegated. The transfer is undisclosed. He scored eight goals in 28 appearances for the National League side last season.

Dwayne Ofori-Acheampong – Woking have announced the signing of the striker who started at Southend United. The 25-year old spent a season at Dover Athletic before joining Dartford for the 2016/17 campaign.

John Paul Kissock – Welling United were very busy at the end of the week, one of those signings was John Paul Kissok who most recently at Southport and a former England youth international.

Gavin McCallum – Predominantly a winger, McCallum has signed on for the upcoming season and joins from Eastbourne Borough where he was voted Supporters’ Player of the Season and made 39 appearances for the club last season.

Nassim L’Ghoul - The French winger signs for the Wings, following the manager King from Whitehawk where he was a fans favourite. L’Ghoul also had trials with various league clubs including Charlton Athletic during his career.
