What’s Going On Across The National League On Saturday

By Sam Elliott

The leaders’ advantage extended, a new team dropping into the bottom four and a managerial change.

It’s been quite the week in the Vanarama National League.

So what will Saturday bring with the final Saturday programme in February just hours away.

It’s advantage Barnet in the title race following their conclusive victory on Tuesday against championship rivals York City. To add to the intrigue, Bees manager then vented his frustration at off-field matters, adding yet another talking point to a frantic few days.

It’s now about chalking games off for the table toppers, and victory at Rochdale would send out another message.

With the chasers dropping points in midweek, the pressure is on to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

York City are usually happy on their own patch, but FC Halifax Town are always a tough nut to crack under Chris Millington.

Forest Green had a bad week. Losing their six-month undefeated run at Braintree on Saturday, they were below par at bottom side Ebbsfleet United a few days later. Woking visit tomorrow and Rovers need to win.

If Oldham Athletic’s season is to be anything except a promotion push via the play-offs, they need to win at a Dagenham & Redbridge side without victory in eight.

Gateshead fans think they could have a part to play if they keep the wins coming. It’s a trip to Solihull Moors on Saturday, and Matt Taylor has seen his side lose six of their last seven matches.

Southend United are very much in the play-off picture all of a sudden. A win at Tamworth will get their fans really talking.

Sutton United know there is simply no time to lose if they are going to be in the promotion mix. Braintree Town visit and the gap to the top seven now stands at ten points.

There’s always a team who appear to come from nowhere to be involved in the dogfight and Aldershot Town have slipped into the bottom four.

Tommy Widdrington wants a big reaction to that blow when his team host Hartlepool United - and former Woking manager Anthony Limbrick this weekend.

What a week it has been for Wealdstone. They chase a third straight victory when bottom side Ebbsfleet come to town.

Boston United have given themselves a chance but Eastleigh go into their game on the back of a great win over the Daggers.

AFC Fylde fired manager Kevin Phillips following the Pilgrims’ win at Mill Farm. They could probably do without a trip to Altrincham, who won late at Hartlepool on Tuesday, pictured.

Maidenhead United always seem to know how to bail themselves out of trouble. After a valiant win at Oldham, Yeovil Town lie in wait.

What a weekend we’ve got in store!
