What’s Going On In The National League This Weekend

By Sam Elliott

On Valentine’s weekend there won’t be much affection shown with every point precious as the run-in looms.

The National League season is shooting by and there’s a less than three months to go.

The title race could go the distance, many believe. Leaders Barnet are about to get a timely reminder of why they really want to avoid the play-offs this time.

That’s because they host Solihull Moors, who turned them over 4-0 at the Hive in the semi-final last May.

They won’t want to try their luck again but their advantage at the top is down to two points, meaning it’s crucial they maintain their excellent home form.

The chasers face teams at the wrong end. Forest Green Rovers haven’t tasted league defeat since late September. They don’t plan on ending that at Braintree Town.

York City’s away form isn’t as good as it is at home but they fancy their chances of victory on the road at Ebbsfleet United, who have won only once this season.

Oldham Athletic’s hopes of playing a part in the tussle at the very top were hit on Tuesday, despite a fightback at home to Altrincham. They face Sutton United knowing they can’t drop many more points to stay in the race.

The Robins go to Gateshead in fifth as FC Halifax Town look to put their midweek blip to one side when Boston United visit the Shay having taken points off a number of various promotion candidates in 2025.

Rochdale lurk just outside the play-offs and have games in hand but are lacking consistency. Jimmy McNulty is looking to mark his 40th birthday with three points at Southend United, who themselves haven’t been able to win with any regularity.

Hartlepool United are in the race for the top seven but they need more victories at Victoria Park than they’ve been getting. Maidenhead United pay them a visit on Saturday.

The Magpies are embedded in the battle down the bottom which involves a number of clubs.

AFC Fylde currently sit in the drop zone and Kevin Phillips will know the importance of a home game with Dagenham.

Wealdstone are below them in 22nd and head to Yeovil Town looking to end a three-month wait for an away win.

Aldershot Town are above the dotted line but know they won’t get any favours in a full-blooded Hampshire derby at Eastleigh.

Woking and Tamworth sit alongside each other in the table and play knowing it’s not impossible that they’re sucked into the scrap.
