What’s Ahead Later As Cup And League Battles Resume

By Sam Elliott

There’s action to be found tonight with some important league matches - and the next instalment of the National League Cup.

The opening week of the new competition couldn’t have started with any more excitement.

It gives our clubs the opportunity to pit themselves against talented young teams from Premier League and EFL sides - and the first night’s 8 matches produced an incredible 34 goals.

So will happen later on when Phil Parkinson’s Altrincham kick-off their campaign at home to Blackburn Rovers?

The battle for points should produce plenty of talking points as well.

Ben Clark continues to take charge of Gateshead following the departure of Rob Elliot to League One Crawley Town.

After a winning start against Wealdstone, he will be desperate to add another three points to his tally as the interim manager takes the team to Tamworth, who have a point to prove.

Although the Lambs will be thrilled with their first two months, throwing away three points at FC Halifax Town on Tuesday was a huge disappointment - and now Andy Peaks wants a reaction.

Worthing and Welling United fans will be a little underwhelmed by what they’ve seen so far in the National League South.

But it takes just one result to spark a season into life and the two teams meet in the south coast looking to start a climb.

A win for the Rebels sees them move into tenth, while Rod Stringer knows an away win lift them up a spot, putting a little distance between themselves at the bottom four.

Where next?
