What Happened This Afternoon Across The National League

Late derby drama, sensational strikes and six pointer sizzlers - it was some start to 2022!

Notts County came from behind to defeat Wrexham as the New Year begun with a clash of the National League giants.

The visitors went ahead through Reece Hall-Johnson’s wondergoal before they were quickly reduced to ten men.

Kyle Wootton made the most of it with a first half double before Jayden Richardson made it safe.

A sensational late Aldershot Town show at Woking send their fans wild.

Their side were 2-1 down in the last minute before a leveller from Corie Andrews. They went on and won it - Mikael Ndjoli sparked pandemonium in the away end.

The big game in the south west exploded late on.

Yeovil Town went ahead with a belter from Jordan Bennett.

But Conor Lemonheigh-Evans from a corner made it 1-1 with over 1,000 Torquay United fans thrilled.

It was a very happy return to Huish Park for Gary Johnson when Dan Holman won it for the Gulls with a minute to go.

It was just as eventful at Eastleigh - who thought they had blown it against Weymouth.

But Danny Whitehall made it 3-2 to break the Terras’ hearts in time added on.

There was no drama needed for Dagenham - they won 3-1 against Dover, Myles Weston made it safe.

Boreham Wood and Barnet couldn’t be separated, they fired blanks as Luke Garrard’s team missed the chance to go second.

Chesterfield still have their noses in front - on Saturday, they beat King’s Lynn 1-0 and have a three point advantage.

In the National League North, leaders Brackley Town were stunned.

A 3-1 defeat at Kettering set them back - but it wasn’t the afternoon’s only surprise result.

Second place Gateshead were also beaten, losing 2-1 at struggling Blyth Spartans.

Experienced JJ O’Donnell and Robbie Dale won the big North East derby.

Promotion chasing Boston United also went down, losing 3-2 to Alfreton Town who also have designs on going up.

Ben Gerring got the winner as Gloucester City won 1-0 at Leamington.

AFC Telford missed a late penalty at Chester and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

There were no goals, meanwhile, as Farsley held firm against Guiseley despite going down to ten men.

It’s hard keeping pace with the top of the National League South with a title race to rival any.

Ebbsfleet United won the day’s massive game against Dartford, Ben Chapman’s late goal left the long term leaders reeling - and down to fifth.

But Maidstone United are now top, they won for a sixth game in a row.

The Stones beat Tonbridge Angels 2-0, Joan Luque adding some gloss to the scoreline.

Dorking Wanderers are really now getting going.

They continue to haunt Havant & Waterlooville - Nick Wheeler, Jason Prior and Niall McManus all scoring in the 3-1 win.

Oxford City needed a George Harmon goal to pinch a point at Slough Town, 2-2 it finished.

Dipo Akinyemi was the Welling United hero as he silenced a huge crowd at Dulwich Hamlet.

Elsewhere, Bath City beat Chippenham again, Hemel stunned St Albans and Concord Rangers and Billericay couldn’t be separated.
