What Happened On Tuesday Night Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

Most Vanarama National League clubs were back in action as the National League North and South sides got their seasons underway.

There are a number of teams who have perfect records - and they will be wanting that to continue.

Hartlepool United are loving their start to the new campaign. Ryan Johnson was the hero as Dave Challinor’s team beat to make it six points from six with a fine victory at Chesterfield.

Eastleigh had Ben House to thank again - Ben Strevens’ team winning well for the second time in four days and they remain top of the fledgling table.

The defeated Torquay United 2-1 with the manager calling it a “brilliant result”.

Woking are also 100 per cent - they won 1-0 at Weymouth. Slavi Spasov converted Josh Casey’s free-kick to make it a great trip home.

Sutton United have started superbly and their 2-1 victory at Aldershot Town under-lined their improvement under Matt Gray.

Stockport County and Solihull Moors both slipped up on the opening day.

But things look a look better now, County winning 2-1 at home to FC Halifax, while Moors 1-0 success at home to Wrexham paints a better picture.

King’s Lynn will be nobody’s fools this season, it seems.

They again showcased their incredible spirit to comeback at Maidenhead United and even pinched all the points in a 3-2 win after Aaron Jones’ late, late winner.

Bromley started with an emphatic 4-1 win against Dover as Micheal Cheek was at the double.

Dagenham have had a start of forget as Barnet bounced back from their opening day humbling by winning 2-1 late on in East London.

Wealdstone showed the spirit they will need - they refused to roll over at die at Yeovil, taking a point home in a 2-2 draw to the delight of manager Dean Brennan.

Many fancy both AFC Fylde and York City to challenge this term in the National League North - and they didn’t disappoint.

York beat Chorley 3-1 with Michael Woods putting the seal on a great first day for the Minstermen.

Fylde, relegated from the National League North last term, started with a sturdy 1-0 victory over Darlington. Haughton’s superb strike separated the sides at Mill Farm.

Two sides, though, fired first day warnings.

Boston United eased to victory over at Leamington. Paul Green, Luke Shiels, Scott Garner and Jordan Thewlis all found the target.

Guiseley were also delighted - a thumping 4-0 victory over Blyth Spartans is just the start the Lions wanted.

There was an impressive three points also for Chester. They won 2-1 at Kidderminster with new signing Declan Weeks coming back to haunt old club Kidderminster.

In the National League South, Ebbsfleet United’s new era started with a bang - they won 3-0 at Braintree.

Ky Marsh-Brown scored a first half winner as Dartford defeated Chelmsford City 1-0.

Maidstone United are hoping for a lot better this time around and served notice of their intentions by beating Welling United 2-0. Scott Rendell got his first goal for the Stones.

There was an impressive win for fancied Dorking, 3-0 at Eastbourne, while Bath City fell to a 2-0 defeat at Oxford City.

Basement boys last year Hungerfordseem to have learned their lesson from last time - they won 3-0 against Chippenham.
