What Happened On Saturday In The National League South?

By Sam Elliott

The leaders advantage at the top of the National League South has been reduced to four points on a dramatic day.

Wealdstone’s away form gives the chasing pack that little more hope after they went down at Oxford City.

The 3-2 defeat, earned by a Finn Tapp goal after an excellent Stones fightback, means the table toppers have taken two points from a possible 15 on the road.

Bath City left it very late to take advantage on a great day for the Romans.

Ross Stearn’s late winner turned their home match with Billericay on its head, 2-1 it finished to Bath who may have played more but are looking strong in second.

Havant & Waterlooville will be kicking themselves. They may be the best travellers in the division but again they come unstuck at home.

Maidstone United run out 2-1 winners, Ibrahim Akanbi was at the double to give the Stones play-off hopes a shot in the arm but Slough Town slip further off the pace.

The surrendered two home points to Eastbourne Borough, 1-1 it ended in Berkshire.

Dartford
are the division’s form team - and manager Steve King says we can judge his side’s play-off chances after their game at Dorking.

Well, it’s looking good - their stunning late 3-2 win was secured by a late, late Darren McQueen winner. The Darts have now won four in a row.

Chelmsford are also closing in and the have ten points from 12 thanks to their eventful 2-1 win over Hemel Hempstead. Chris Whelpdale and Sam Higgins goals claimed a fourth win from six.

Dulwich Hamlet’s long wait for a home win is over - and how.

Their big fan base hadn’t had a Champion Hill win to cheer since August but they eased past Braintree 6-0 in front of over 2,700.

Hungerford showed their battling qualities as they came back from 2-0 down to draw at St Albans, while Tonbridge leapfrogged Chippenham with 3-2 win.

Concord Rangers’ great run is over, Hampton came away from Essex with a professional 2-0 win.

Welling United, though, have now lost four on the spin - Weymouth running out 3-1 victors at Park View Road.
