It rained goals on a tough afternoon for football as the conditions didn’t get in the way of some fantastic National League encounters.

Hartlepool United returned to second place after they won the game of the day.

They leapfrog Sutton United thanks to Rhys Oates’ 53 minute goal, pictured, but Torquay United’s lead still stands at ten points.

The Gulls still have a big gap after they overcame troubled Barnet 2-0.

Ben Whitfield opened the scoring seven minute in and eight minutes from time the points were sealed by Jake Andrew.

Stockport County started life under Simon Rusk in style.

They won 4-1 at Woking and look like being able to challenge as the new era begun brightly.

John Rooney, Connor Jennings, Macaulay Southam-Hales and Alex Reid all scored in Surrey.

Elisha Sam snatched a winner as Notts County won a tricky fixture 1-0 at Weymouth.

Wrexham won 2-0 at King’s Lynn to up the heat on the sides above them - Jamie Reckord and Adi Yussuf got the goals in Norfolk.

Danilo Orsi-Dadomo scored twice as Maidenhead United claimed a fantastic 3-2 win at FC Halifax Town.

Dan Smith winner in time added on sparked wild scenes as Eastleigh left Boreham Wood with maximum reward.

Chesterfield’s ten men did themselves proud at Dagenham but the hosts’ Sam Deering claimed a 2-2 draw.

Joe Quigley was at the double as Yeovil Town came from behind to win 3-1 against Dover Athletic.

The BT Sport cameras brought Bromley some good luck as they finally sealed a home win.

After seven games without victory at Hayes Lane, Jack Bridge opened the scoring in the first half with his first goal for the club.

Aldershot were beaten when Michael Cheek scored from close range for 2-0.
