What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

Late drama was the order of the day in the National League as closing stage goals turned things on their head.

Dagenham came back from the dead to stun King’s Lynn Town and get the home win they really needed.

Michael Gash followed up an early Alex Kiwomya goal to put Ian Culverhouse’s side in control but when Callum Reynolds headed the hosts back in it, things changed.

They levelled through Andrew Eleftheriou and then Mitch Brundle grabbed the 90th minute winner.

Akwasi Asante was the Chesterfield hero as they nabbed all three points in dramatic style at home to Wrexham.

He opened the scoring on nine minutes, but a penalty from even reliable Luke Young put the Dragons on terms.

Asante’s flying start to life at the club continues as he found the net late on to claim all three points.

Josh Hancock also snatched glory in the 90th minute as Altrincham flattened Barnet.

The Bees flew into the lead when JJ Hooper opened the scoring, but Matty Kosylo found the bottom corner from the edge of the box to level before half-time - and then came the late winner.

There was no such drama as the game of the day between Notts County and leaders Torquay didn’t live up to expectation. It ended goalless at Meadow Lane, and there were no goals at Woking either and they drew 0-0 with Maidenhead United.

Stockport County started life without Jim Gannon with a 1-1 draw against Boreham Wood.

John Rooney’s fantastic free-kick but the managerless hosts ahead six minutes in but Kabongo Tshimanga made a point on the hour mark.

Solihull Moors manager Jimmy Shan wants more wins away from home and he got his wish as his team won 2-0 at Dover Athletic.

Nathan Cameron’s opener on the half hour was doubled by Kyle Hudlin seven minutes after the break.

Weymouth registered arguably the shock of the season so far as they stunned in-form Hartlepool United 1-0. Josh McQuoid pouncing for a vital winner.

Sutton United are back into second as they added to Eastleigh’s recent woes. Rob Milsom and David Ajiboye scored before the break, Craig Eastmond added the gloss 20 minutes from time.

Aldershot won a helter-skelter match at Wealdstone 4-3 - Josh Rees grabbed the killer goal in the game of the day.

Bromley are great away, but not so good at Hayes Lane.

Michael Cheek celebrated his new contract by putting them ahead against FC Halifax before Luke Summerfield scored in a tale of two first-half penalties.

Jamie Allen got the winner minutes after the teams returned for the second half and it sent the Shaymen into sixth.
