What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

There was FA Trophy fourth round drama as well as big games in all three divisions on an action packed Saturday afternoon.

Wembley is in sight for many of our sides - but so is promotion as well.

Fiacre Kelleher picked the perfect moment to score his first ever Wrexham goal.

The Irish defender got them up and running against bottom side Dover Athletic, pictured, before Luke Young put the seal on the 3-1 win from the penalty spot.

The Whites drew themselves level but the Dragons had too much going forward and move up to eighth.

In the National League South, leaders Dartford couldn’t take advantage of others’ inactivity.

They were held 1-1 at home to Hungerford, who are going steady in fourth, as Josh Hill pounced to grab a point.

David Fisher won it late on for Hampton - who are getting it together at home at last.

The away day specialists beat Ebbsfleet United 2-1 at the Beveree as Gary McCann’s side maintain their promotion push.

But Chris Whelpdale damaged Havant & Waterlooville’s title challenge - his two goals for Eastbourne Borough handed the Sports a big three points.

Bird was the word for Slough Town. Striker Ryan pounced for a late, late winner as the Rebels finally overcame Braintree.

Jake Robinson was on target as Billericay Town bettered Dulwich Hamlet 2-0.

Games were in short supply in the National League North - but goals weren’t at Victory Park.

Chorley beat Farsley Celtic 3-2 as Connor Hall grabbed the winning goal as they twice came from behind to seal a big win a week of from FA Cup glory.

Gateshead left it very late to get a much-needed victory against Guiseley.

Macauley Langstaff snatched the victory in time added on as they closed the gap on the play-off places.

AFC Telford needed a pick-me-up after recent set-backs but they had to settle for a point at home to Curzon Ashton. Jason Oswell rescued a 1-1 draw for the Bucks.

FA Trophy headlines were made - and Notts County got one over Stockport County again.

Kyle Wootton struck the winner in the 89th minute, after Ash Palmer levelled Jimmy Knowles’ opener.

Darlington’s long trip to Weymouth was worth it thanks to Will Hatfield’s winner.

Sutton United had too much for Dagenham as Will Randall put the seal on a 3-1 victory.

Saidou Khan and Joan Luque both scored as Maidstone United beat National League South promotion rivals Dorking Wanderers 2-1 to progress to round five.

Oxford City beat Haringey Borough 4-2 - but it didn’t go to plan for two of our clubs against lower level opposition.

Peterborough Sports sent Bath City packing, while Hornchurch beat King’s Lynn Town on penalties.
