What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Tom Scott

The National League continues to twist and turn as we head into the business end of proceedings.

Where do you begin with the title race at the minute?

Let's start with leaders Barrow - who slipped to their first home defeat since October at the hands of Notts County.

Scott Quigley saw red for the hosts as Tom Crawford and Cal Roberts sent the travelling Magpie faithful back to the Midlands with three points.

That slip-up opened the door for Harrogate Town who were playing later live on BT Sport.

But Town couldn't capitalise despite going ahead against Bromley, Jack Diamond with the opener before Alex Bradley's own-goal.

The race for third is also getting tasty - Boreham Wood staking their claim with a narrow win over Maidenhead thanks to Kabongo Tshimanga.

Yeovil are also in the hunt, Marc Richards seeing them past Dover while Halifax were stunned by Woking.

Goals from Rob Milsom and Will Randall clinched a vital win for Matt Gray and Sutton United against Torquay United.

Struggling Ebbsfleet United showed their fighting spirit as they shocked Hartlepool United at Victoria Park.

Gozie Ugwu hit the decisive strike from the penalty spot midway through the second-half.

Dagenham & Redbridge continued their revival under Daryl McMahon with a first away win since September.

Mitch Brundle's strike four minutes from time was enough for the Daggers to see off Aldershot Town.

AFC Fylde and Solihull Moors played out a goalless draw while Wrexham had a goal disallowed against Eastleigh to give the same result.

Chesterfield lifted themselves out of the drop zone with a Tom Denton-inspired win over Chorley.

The powerful frontman put the Spireites ahead before Jordan Cropper made it two, Connor Hall hit a late consolation for the hosts.

Barnet raced into the lead against Stockport County but were pegged back through Ash Palmer's strike late in the first-half after Simeon Akinola had the Bees ahead from the spot.

Elsewhere, Woking had too much for Halifax to handle and were home and dry at half-time thanks to goals from Max Kretzschmar and Jake Hyde.
