What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

The final matches of March provided plenty of talking points as the weeks tick down until the end of the season.

When the clocks go forward you know it’s crunch time but Barnet aren’t showing any signs of pressure.

Callum Stead scored twice in a 3-1 win over Gateshead to maintain their marvellous winning run and they stay 11 points ahead.

York City won’t let them have it all their own way. Top scorer Ollie Pearce scored again as they defeated Wealdstone 3-0 with Adam May’s winner enough for Forest Green to see off Solihull Moors.

In the live DAZN match, Keenan Appiah-Forson was fantastic as Southend United edge ever close to their play-offs as Kevin Maher’s men defeated Oldham Athletic 1-0 in front of almost 8,500 fans.

Rochdale showed they’ve got the stomach for the play-off fight. Devante Rodney’s double helped in their 4-0 win over in-form Aldershot Town as Tamworth’s charge continued - they beat Eastleigh 2-0.

Boston United are remarkably out of the bottom four. James Gale blew away Sutton United in time added on.

Harry Beautyman, pictured, got on the scoresheet as Woking boosted their survival chances by beating Braintree Town but it was a damaging defeat at Yeovil Town at AFC Fylde.

Dagenham won their big game against Maidenhead United to boost their hopes of staying up. Josh Rees was the hero again.

Reyes Cleary added to FC Halifax’s recent worries as their promotion hopes suffered at set-back at home to Hartlepool United and so did Altrincham - a 2-2 draw at already down Ebbsfleet United not what Phil Parkinson wanted.

Scunthorpe United are in no mood to relinquish control of the National League North.

They stay out in front after a 2-0 win over Southport, Kian Scales got the Iron on their way.

Kidderminster Harriers are still in touch and swept aside Peterborough Sports 3-0 with Zak Brown at the double. Connor Hall scored as Brackley Town returned to winning ways against Scarborough.

Chester will struggle to win it now, they drew 1-1 with Curzon Ashton and Chorley thrashed Spennymoor Town 4-0 to stay in the hunt.

Farsley Celtic are all but relegated after Hereford’s 4-0 win.

Elsewhere there were wins for King’s Lynn Town, Buxton, Oxford City, Darlington and Rushall Olympic.

Just three points separates the National League South leaders Worthing and fourth place Torquay United.

The Rebels beat Hampton 2-0 with Danny Cashman and Joel Colbran getting the goals.

Cody Cooke kept Torquay United in the hunt to relegate Aveley, with Truro City held 0-0 Chelmsford City.

Dorking Wanderers beat promotion rivals Eastbourne Borough 3-1 and in another big game Maidstone thrashed Boreham Wood 4-0. Soloman Wanjau-Smith hit two more goals.

Elsewhere there were important wins for Weymouth, St Albans, Salisbury, Weston-super-Mare and Chesham.
