What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

It was another National League afternoon full of twists and turns in all three divisions as the excitement builds.

Barnet still hold the keys to the EFL door as they passed their latest test, Rhys Browne’s first half winner at Woking kept them 11 points in front.

York City gave them something to think about, the division’s top scorer Ollie Pearce scored from the spot at Yeovil Town to prevent the Bees’ lead growing.

Forest Green Rovers’ title challenge, however, looks over. Another free scorer nailed their coffin, Gus Scott-Morriss snatched an important point for Southend United in their play-off quest. It ended 2-2 at the New Lawn.

Plenty of the teams down the bottom won and Ebbsfleet United live to fight another day on the afternoon they could have been relegated.

A 1-0 victory over troubled AFC Fylde was delivered by Alex Lankshear, only the club’s second win of the season.

Maidenhead United are showing survival fight again. Shawn McCoulsky made the points safe at Gateshead as Boston United close things up - a 1-0 win at Braintree was earned by Keaton Ward, pictured.

Wealdstone came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Eastleigh, Alex Reid was at the double to send the home fans home happy.

Dagenham & Redbridge are in big danger. They are 12 without a win as Tamworth eased to the points in East London, Dan Creaney again on the scoresheet.

FC Halifax Town cemented their play-off place with a simple 3-0 win at Sutton United. Florent Hoti was again amongst the scorers for the Shaymen in the capital.

Altrincham’s hopes of a top seven finish took a hit, a 2-1 defeat to poor travellers Aldershot Town saw Max Mullins strike an unlikely winner.

Vimal Yoganathan pinched a point for Oldham Athletic as they drew 1-1 at home to fellow promotion hunters Rochdale.

Manny Duku continued his fine form in front of goal to rescue a point for Solihull Moors in the live DAZN game at Hartlepool United, who went ahead through Tom Parkes on 54 minutes.

The National League North has new leaders again as Scunthorpe United took over at the top.

A professional 2-0 win at Farsley Celtic saw Callum Roberts score again. They dislodged Brackley Town, who lost 1-0 at home to Buxton after Daniel Ogwuru’s goal.

Chester are back to winning ways, Connell Rawlinson’s ninth minute effort enough to beat Leamington.

Don’t discount Kidderminster from the title race. Ashley Hemmings’ hat-trick inspired a stunning 5-0 win at South Shields.

Chorley’s title challenge hit the skids as Luke Ingram’s late goal grabbed glory for Needham Market.

Michael Gyasi’s two goals got Peterborough Sports going, they beat Darlington 4-1 as Southport began life without Jim Bentley with a 2-0 win at Rushall Olympic.

Elsewhere, Marine shocked Curzon Ashton, Will Thornton’s winner means Hereford’s recent sticky patch continued at Scarborough Athletic and there were wins for Radcliffe and Spennymoor Town, who stunned King’s Lynn 3-0.

Worthing moved four points in front in the National League South title race.

A 3-0 win over Hemel Hempstead Town was their fifth in a row - and second place Truro City’s collapse at Enfield Town put them in the driving seat.

It was certainly dramatic - Oliver Knight scored in the 95th and 96th minute to flip the match on it head in stunning style.

The Rebels had more good news from elsewhere. Dorking Wanderers lost 1-0 at home to Torquay United, inflicted by a Jordan Dyer goal, and Boreham Wood lost 2-1 at struggling Weymouth.

It wasn’t a perfect day for Worthing as Eastbourne Borough won 2-0 at Aveley. Jason Adigun and George Alexander got the job done inside 15 minutes.

Dylan Kadji secured Weston-super-Mare a priceless win at Chelmsford City as Bath City climb thanks to a 2-0 win over Tonbridge Angels.

Elsewhere there were important wins for Salisbury, Chesham, Maidstone United, Farnborough and Slough Town.
