What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

Barnet remain in control of the National League title race as the FA Trophy semi-finals were set.

It was quarter finals joy for Aldershot Town, Woking, Rochdale and Spennymoor Town, who overturned the odds to win 2-0 at Sutton United.

In the battle for promotion, Barnet were brilliant again as they swatted Oldham Athletic aside 3-0 at Boundary Park. The goals were scored by Zak Brunt, Callum Stead and Adebola Oluwo.

York City don’t plan on letting them scamper off into the distance. Ollie Pearce’s winner at Hartlepool United keeps them six points behind.

Forest Green Rovers won’t give up either. Harry Cardwell put the seal on their 2-0 win over Maidenhead United.

Harry Davies earned AFC Fylde what could be a valuable point at Gateshead. The live DAZN game ended 1-1.

James Golding’s late, late leveller kept Southend United’s tails up. He scored deep into stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw at Yeovil Town.

At the wrong end, Boston United gave themselves hope by winning 3-1 at Dagenham, Jacob Hazel scored again. Braintree look good for another National League season after their 1-0 win over Eastleigh.

Ebbsfleet United are all but down, a 3-2 home defeat to Tamworth saw Dan Creaney score twice for the Lambs, who have had a great first season back in the division.

Things are looking seriously tight at the top of the National League North.

Chester dropped points at home to Needham Market, despite Taelor O’Kane giving the leaders a great start.

But second place Scunthorpe couldn’t take advantage. They needed a late Carlton Ubaezuonu goal to take a point from Buxton.

Brackley Town did up the heat, and moved second level on points with the table toppers with a 4-2 win at Darlington. Matt Lowe was at the double.

Chorley dropped points at Leamington, who marked manager Paul Holleran’s 750th match in charge with a 3-2 win. Ewan Williams got what turned out to be the winner.

Stefan Mols kept Curzon Ashton in the hunt with an important win against Scarborough as Gold Omotayo returned to form with two goals as King’s Lynn won 3-1 against South Shields.

All the other games in the division ended all square.

Dorking Wanderers stay three points clear in the National League South as Charlie Carter and Jason Prior scored in their professional win at Enfield Town.

Their rivals dropped points. Junior Dixon earned a late draw for Boreham Wood at Torquay United but Eastbourne Borough couldn’t find a way through at Bath City. The game ended 0-0.

Tyler Harvey added to his tally as Truro City won 4-1 at Chesham. Nick Wheeler left it late as Worthing grabbed a fantastic win at Chelmsford City.

Maidstone United love playing a home and they scored with time running out as Solomon Wanjau-Smith broke Salisbury hearts.

Hampton & RB left Aveley with that sinking feeling and there were wins for Farnborough and Hemel Hempstead too this weekend.
