What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

It may have been a slimmed down Saturday but there was plenty of late drama - and some fantastic goals.

The FA Trophy took some of our teams, with progress for Woking, Rochdale, Aldershot, Spennymoor Town, Altrincham, Sutton United and Oxford City, who defeated Forest Green.

National League’s title challengers Rovers had a day to forget - especially when discovering York City and Barnet both won.

The Bees triumphed 1-0 at Tamworth, Callum Stead with the winner. York, pictured, had ten men but that didn't stop them. Alex Hunt’s late, late penalty defeated Dagenham & Redbridge.

Oldham Athletic keep on the pressure. Mike Fondop-Talom also scored in the 93rd minute as Micky Mellon’s side won 2-1 at AFC Fylde.

Matt Taylor made a quick return to Wealdstone and grabbed a point as Solihull Moors grabbed a 1-1 draw, Alex Whitmore levelling after Alex Reid opening the scoring to the joy of new Stones manager Neil Gibson.

James Miley scored a 97th minute equaliser on his Hartlepool United debut after Jermaine Francis thought his goal had done enough to earn Braintree Town a win.

Jamie Cooke made the game safe with a stunning strike as FC Halifax Town won 2-0 against bottom side Ebbsfleet United.

Chester win a seventh National League North game in a row as Fin Roberts took all the points home from Peterborough Sports.

It was good news for the leaders from elsewhere. King’s Lynn were frustrated in their 1-1 draw at home to Radcliffe, while Brackley went down 3-2 to Hereford, Andy Williams was at the double.

Curzon Ashton drew 1-1 at home to Rushall Olympic, it would have been no points but for Luke Griffiths’ late leveller.

Manager Kevin Horlock quit Needham Market minutes after their dramatic 2-1 win over relegation rivals Warrington Town. Read the full story here.

Luke Brennan’s double lifted Buxton into the top seven while Marine won 2-0 at Leamington. The goals arrived from Enock Luisama and Finlay Sinclair-Smith.

Dorking Wanderers are the latest new name sitting on top of the hard-to-call National League South.

Jason Prior scored twice and Jimmy Muitt got the other in a 3-1 win over Slough Town.

The big game went the way of Maidstone United, who responded to a challenging few weeks by winning at home to Torquay United. Charlie Seaman was the Stones’ hero.

Eastbourne Borough are not going nowhere. George Alexander proved to be the difference as the Sports saw off tricky Tonbridge Angels.

Truro and Bath City drew 0-0, while Luke Spokes haunted Aveley as Chippenham Town turned the game around with another great display.

Weymouth boosted their survival hopes with a 5-1 win over Welling United. Brooklyn Genesini and Jake McCarthy both hit braces.

The other side to win today were Enfield Town, who added to Farnborough’s issues. Sam Youngs’ early penalty settled it.
