What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

There were surprise results a-plenty on a brilliant day of National League action.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the season arrived at Boston United as the second-from-bottom side came from behind to beat title chasing York City 3-1.

Connor Teale, Jimmy Knowles and Jacob Hazel got the goals to secure the Pilgrims’ fourth win of the campaign.

Barnet are the leaders once again after a routine win over Maidenhead United. Callum Stead, Mark Shelton and Idris Kanu all scored.

Forest Green Rovers took home a point from Altrincham after Christian Doidge’s late, late leveller.

Luke Hannant handed Gateshead a point as they and Oldham Athletic drew 1-1 at the International Stadium.

Kairo Mitchell was once again on the scoresheet as Rochdale saw off Yeovil Town 4-0, as Will Davies' penalty was enough for Sutton United to defeat Eastleigh.

It was an eventful dug-out return for Tommy Widdrington as Dan Creaney scored twice for Tamworth but Aldershot grabbed a point through Luca Woodhouse.

It was a losing start for new Solihull Moors manager Matt Taylor as Andrew Oluwabori and Owen Bray hit the target as FC Halifax Town returned home with a 2-0 victory.

Taylor left Wealdstone behind and they begun life without him with a 2-0 defeat at AFC Fylde. Nick Haughton was back to his best.

Southend United also made it a difficult start for Lewis Young and Dagenham as Macauley Bonne stole the show.

Braintree beat Ebbsfleet United 1-0 and Woking and Hartlepool ended all square.

There were some National League South shocks too.

Leaders Boreham Wood went down 4-1 at home to Chippenham Town, Luke Spokes inflicting the damage.

Title-chasing Torquay United also lost at home as Mauro Vilhete was the Hampton & RB hero.

Maidstone United’s long unbeaten run at home is over. Worthing’s win, with Mo Faal scoring the winner, ended their stretch from September 3 without defeat in the league at the Gallagher Stadium.

Truro City also suffered a set-back, they lost 3-0 at Hemel Hempstead, as Welling got a brilliant 4-1 win at Weston-super-Mare - Dave Winfield, Jayden Davis and Zain Walker were amongst the scorers.

Tonbridge Angels won 3-1 against Slough to move closer to the top seven Harry Ottway and Trevan Robinson scored in time added on.

Elsewhere there were big wins for Eastbourne Borough and Dorking Wanderers.

Chester won for a fifth game in a row and it took them to the top of the National League North.

They defeated Scarborough Athletic 4-2, Dan Mooney was on target again later on to make the points safe.

Joe Rowley, Callum Roberts and Danny Whitehall all notched for Scunthorpe United. They edged out South Shields.

Kidderminster Harriers dropped two points away to Oxford City, who grabbed a brave point when Jalen Jones scored in the 92nd minute of the match.

King’s Lynn Town also had a day to forget, going down 3-1 at Peterborough Sports. Max Booth confirmed the win.

Connor Hall’s deadly double gave Brackley Town a fine 4-1 win against Spennymoor Town.

It was also a weekend to remember for Needham Market, Rushall Olympic and Buxton
