What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

Wrexham and Bromley sealed their Wembley place thanks to their FA Trophy exploits - and there was plenty to talk about in the National League too.

Grimsby Town won the game of the day as they came from behind to deflate Chesterfield.

The hosts went ahead through Laurence Maguire but Paul Hurst’s team showed their promotion metal.

John McAtee, a Gavan Holohan wonder-strike and second half goals from Harry Clifton and Ryan Taylor made it 4-1 to leave their fans purring.

Ruben Rodriques’ stunning hat-trick buried Southend United as Notts County won 3-0 at Roots Hall.

Boreham Wood can’t buy a win at the moment - and the BT Sport cameras didn’t bring a change of fortune.

Max Kretzschmar‘s penalty winner was enough for ten man Woking, whose fans toasted Darren Sarll at full-time after his first game in charge ended in victory.

It was Wood’s first home defeat of the season.

Deadly Andrew Dallas got two as Solihull Moors beat Maidenhead United 3-1.

Billy Waters was on the scoresheet for FC Halifax Town - they defeated Wealdstone 2-0.

King’s Lynn gained a point on Aldershot Town, who lost 2-0 at home to Eastleigh, but they won’t be happy with a 1-1 draw Dover Athletic.

Reuben Reid hit a leveller as Charlie Lee’s Yeovil Town earned a 2-2 draw in his first game since taking over on a caretaker basis. Barnet thought they had won it through Adam Marriott but there was a twist at the Hive.

The huge National League North game was won by Brackley Town.

They defeated Gateshead 1-0 - James Armson’s penalty proved vital.

Nick Haughton scored twice as AFC Fylde defeated Farsley Celtic 3-1.

Kidderminster could only draw 0-0 with Bradford PA while Glen Taylor bagged a brace for Spennymoor - they won 3-0 at Curzon Ashton.

Decarey Sherriff’s winner for Kettering Town stunned Southport.

Alfreton left Hereford with a 2-1 win while there was success for Darlington, Chorley and AFC Telford United.

The top two won very well in the National League South.

Maidstone United still lead the way as in-form Jack Barham’s hat-trick hammered Havant & Waterlooville.

Dorking Wanderers took out their recent frustration on Slough Town - Jason Prior got a goal on his return from injury in the 5-0 rout.

Eastbourne Borough are flying and made it six from six as they defeated Concord Rangers 2-0.

Oxford City and Dartford played out a 1-1 draw - striker Joe Iaciofano earned a point for the hosts.

Ryan Seager grabbed two as Hungerford Town stay in the play-off mix with a 2-1 win at Ebbsfleet United.

Hampton won 1-0 at Braintree while Chippenham were successful at Billericay.
