What Happened On Saturday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

It wasn’t the first day at the office Paul Cook wanted following his return to Chesterfield.

Not only did he see scoring sensation Kaba Tshimanga carried off on a stretcher at Weymouth.

But he had to watch the hosts use that added time to snatch a very late equaliser - and stop his side hitting top spot.

The struggling Terras saved a point when Ahkeem Rose struck eight minutes into injury time. Alex Whittle put the visitors in front but Cook couldn’t celebrate a win - and now they wait for news of their stricken striker.

Southend United won for a seventh time in eight as they recovered from a slow start to the second half to win at Woking.

After go in 2-0 behind, Inih Effiong drew the hosts level after coming out a totally different team.

But Harry Cardwell came back to haunt his old club with a towering header and the Shrimpers keep on climbing.

Grimsby Town’s season is back up and running as they defeated Aldershot Town 3-1, pictured.

John McAtee scored twice and it’s now only goal difference keeping the club out of the top seven.

Torquay United did damaged at Dover Athletic late as they returned home with a 3-1 win.

Wealdstone have done the double over Barnet and look good for another season at National League level.

The saw off their big rivals 3-1, the goals came from Nathan Ferguson, Josh Umerah and a great effort from Jayden Mundle-Smith.

Ryan Colclough scored again as Altricnham left King’s Lynn Town with maximum reward but Eastleigh and Yeovil Town couldn’t be separated.

Anything Brackley can do in the National League North, Gateshead can do better.

The Saints beat title rivals AFC Fylde 1-0 after a wonder goal from Shepherd Murombedzi.

But the Heed gave Alfreton hell - they won 4-0, with impressive Cedwyn Scott grabbing two. The sides are neck and neck at the top.

Kidderminster Harriers feel they can keep pace and Nathan Cameron earned a 1-0 win at AFC Telford.

Kelsey Mooney hit two as Leamington defeated Chorley 2-1.

There were also great wins on Saturday for Darlington, Gloucester, Hereford and Kettering Town.

National League South leaders Dorking Wanderers bounced back from the end of their great run last time out.

A 2-0 win at Bath City was earned by Nick Wheeler and Darren Oldaker - and it was an 11th win in 12.

But Maidstone United are refusing to let them run away with it.

Jack Barham hit a sensational hat-trick as the Stones won 3-2 at Eastbourne Borough to keep the gap at three points.

Oxford City stay in touch - Harvey Bradbury put the seal on victory over Hemel Hempstead.

But Tyler Goodrham’s double for Slough Town was a dagger through Ebbsfleet United’s title challenge.

Dylan Gavin helped bottom club Billericay Town stun Dulwich Hamlet.

Elsewhere, big wins were earned by Welling United, Braintree, Concord Rangers and Chelmsford City.
