What Happened On Saturday Across The National League ?

By Sam Elliott

Storm Dennis may have caused havoc across the National League on Saturday.

But Kristian Dennis was the name on Notts County fans’ lips after his equaliser preserved a point against Woking.

The Magpies striker was in the right place to level up after Cards midfielder Max Kretzschmar turned in Dave Tarpey’s cross.

That was one of three to survive the terrible weather - and the big game was at the bottom.

Ebbsfleet claimed an invaluable 1-0 win over Chorley to keep their hopes of beating the drop very much alive.

Jack King’s second half winner moved the Fleet above AFC Fylde as Kevin Watson’s team secured a vital victory.

Stockport County’s bad run is over - their 1-0 win over Bromley moves them to within a point of the play-offs.

A debut goal from Liam Hogan proved to be the difference and manager Jim Gannon said: “If we finish in the play-offs, it’ll be a greater achievement than last year.”

It was another good day for National League South leaders Wealdstone - despite them not playing.

Title rivals Slough Town and Havant & Waterlooville drew 1-1. Matt Lench put the Rebels in front but Jonah Ayunga rescued a point for Havant.

Weymouth showed their character - a 3-2 win at Hampton proved they are up for the promotion fight. Calvin Brooks’ double sealed a comeback win for the Terras.

The sides struggling at the foot of the table all earned points. Tonbridge and Hungerford drew 1-1, while it was a stalemate between St Albans and Oxford City. It also ended 0-0 at Cressing Road as Braintree and Hemel Hempstead couldn’t be separated.

Dorking Wanderers triumphed 2-0 over Chelmsford City as Jake Gallagher and Elliott Buchanan found the net at Meadowbank.

Welling’s revival continues - a 1-0 win at Dulwich Hamlet is a third win for new manager Bradley Quinton.

Bath City are back on track thanks to a 1-0 win at Concord Rangers, Ross Stearn netted the winner while Chippenham gave their season a huge boost but beating Maidstone.

Only two games survived in the National League North.

Altrincham are up to fifth after a classy 3-0 win at Blyth Spartans. Newboy Elliott Durrell scored again - as did Josh Hancock and Dan Mooney in the North East.

Gateshead are great at home - but they couldn’t find a way past Kidderminster, the game ending without a goal.
