What Happened On Friday Across The National League

By Sam Elliott

The first leg of the Easter bonanza didn’t disappoint - and for the first time in 2022 Stockport County suffered a league defeat.

The table toppers went down 2-1 at Grimsby Town, losing a lead and a man as the Mariners breathed life into the National League title race.

Scott Quigley had the leaders ahead but a red card before the break changed the complexion of the match.

John McAtee on 64 minutes had Grimsby level before Blundell Park shook when Gavan Holohan put them ahead - giving a massive boost to the club’s chances of holding onto a play-off spot in the process.

Wrexham, their closest challengers, could only make up a point on Stockport.

Ollie Palmer levelled up in the live BT Sport game against Solihull Moors, who are in fine form - not losing since the early days of 2022 - and were good value for the 1-1 draw.

Dagenham had a great day, even if the sides above them all won.

A 7-3 thumping win over Barnet was just deadly, Junior Morais hit a hat-trick and Paul McCallum got two.

But it seems a long way back for Boreham Wood after they went down 2-1 at home to Dover, who recorded just their second win of the season.

Notts County eased past King’s Lynn Town 4-1. Goals from Kyle Wootton, Callum Roberts, Aaron Nemane and Elisha Sam blew the strugglers away after Gold Omotayo stunned Meadow Lane with an early opener.

FC Halifax Town were denied all three points by Altrincham’s Harry Perritt.

Bromley still have play-off hope - a 2-0 win at Eastleigh was earned by Billy Bingham and James Vennings.

So do Torquay United as they beat old foes Woking 1-0, Armani Little the match winner making it four wins in a row.

Aldershot Town are nearly safe. A 2-0 win at Aldershot was secured by Giles Phillips and Ryan Glover.

Josh Kelly scored again as Maidenhead United won 2-0 against Weymouth.

Gateshead stormed back to the top of the National League North in some style.

A 6-0 win at bottom club Guiseley sent out a message to in-active Brackley Town. Macaulay Langstaff and Taylor Charters both helped themselves to two goals.

Max Kouhyar hit what could be a crucial winner for play-off hunting York City at home to Spennymoor Town.

Kidderminster Harriers produced a great comeback at Chester, Omari Sterling-James made it 2-2 seven minutes from time.

Bailey Hobson netted the winner for Alfreton Town at Chorley, while Southport held AFC Fylde to a 0-0 draw.

There were also wins for Boston United, Blyth Spartans, Hereford and Kettering.

Dorking Wanderers knew they had to win in the National League South and didn’t miss the chance.

A 3-0 victory over Chippenham Town was secured by a first-half brace from James McShane. It took them to within four points of Maidstone United, who didn’t play.

Dartford are third - Marcus Dinanga on target again as they won 2-0 at Billericay, who are bottom again after Welling United’s incredible comeback at Eastbourne Borough. It ended 3-3 at Priory Lane.

Rakish Bingham’s double gave Ebbsfleet United a 2-1 victory against Dulwich Hamlet.

Reece Fleet all-but secured Oxford City’s play-off place with a 1-0 win over Hungerford Town.

The last spot is up for grabs - and St Albans made a mess of trying to put a firm hand on it, going down 3-0 at home to troubled Chelmsford City.

Havant & Waterlooville are now seventh after a 0-0 draw at Bath City.

Elsewhere there were good wins for Slough Town, Hemel Hempstead and Concord Rangers.
