What Happened In The National League North On Saturday?

By Tom Scott

The top seven sides are keeping their cards very close to their chests after a weekend where all of the top sides playing won their games.

No surprise who was on the scoresheet for King’s Lynn Town.

The Linnets continue to defy the pre-season odds, holding onto top-spot with a narrow win over Gateshead – Adam Marriott with goal number 20 for the season.

York City are keeping up the pressure after Jordan Burrow edged them past struggling Alfreton – the Minstermen are now two points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Southport are also in the play-off hunt after Devarn Green’s winner against managerless Kidderminster Harriers.

Chester needed a second-half turnaround to see off resilient Bradford (Park Avenue).

After falling behind to a Billy Priestly strike, Ant Dudley and Akwasi Asante made it six straight defeats for Mark Bower’s men.

Avenue’s struggles are music to the ears of Blyth Spartans after they were thumped convincingly by Brackley Town.

A six-goal rout was started by Gaz Dean before Wes York bagged two and Lee Ndlovu completed a hat-trick for the Saints.

AFC Telford are two from two after Marcus Dinanga’s second-half treble against Darlington who had led through Alex Storey and Justin Donawa.

Gloucester City led through Jack Senior before finding themselves behind against Kettering Town after goals from Aaron O’Connor and Matthew Taylor – a late Fabian Robert goal got James Rowe his first point.

Elsewhere, Leamington led through Joe Clarke and Josh March.

But the game against Guiseley changed when Steph Morley was sent off for the Brakes. Brad Nicholson led a one-man fightback for the Lions who took a point.

Farsley Celtic had Jack Higgins to thank after his stoppage time leveller against Hereford. The Bulls led through Tom Allen but the sides shared the spoils.

Saturday's National League North final scores:
Blyth Spartans 0-6 Brackley Town
Chester 2-1 Bradford (Park Avenue)
Darlington 2-3 AFC Telford United
Gloucester City 2-2 Kettering Town
Hereford 1-1 Farsley Celtic
Kidderminster Harriers 0-1 Southport
