What Happened In The National League North On Boxing Day?

By Tom Scott

Forget Christmas Day, today was the day for big gifts in the National League North.

The title race and survival scrap are shaping up to go right to the wire.

King's Lynn are still stop after a late goal from Michael Gash saw them past a stubborn Boston United.

Chester are hot on their heels and showed their grit by seeing off Southport in the day's big promotion face-off.

Ryan Astles did have the Port ahead but goals from George Glendon, Akwasi Asante and Gary Roberts wrapped up a big win for the Blues.

At the other end, the bottom two will remain the same going into the New Year.

That's despite a late Robbie Dale giving Blyth Spartans a huge win on their travels at Gateshead.

No such luck for Bradford (Park Avenue) who will finish the year at the foot of the table after losing to York City, 2-0 it finished at the Horsfall.

Leamington stretched their unbeaten home run to five games in style, seeing off Gloucester City 3-0.

In race for the play-offs, Guiseley closed the gap to Farsley Celtic courtesy of Chris Sang and Lee Shaw's second-half goals.

Darlington are also staking their claim and can't be counted out after Stephen Thompson's winner downed Spennymoor Town, 2-1 it finished.

Hereford are still looking for that elusive away win after slipping to defeat against Kidderminster Harriers.

Jimmy Shan's side are now three unbeaten after a brace from Oliver Shenton set them on their way - the Bulls are winless in eight on the road.

Elsewhere, AFC Telford scored their first home goals of December to set them on their way to a win against Alfreton while a Tom Peers goal was all Altrincham needed to see off Curzon Ashton.

National League North Boxing Day final scores:
AFC Telford United 3-0 Alfreton
