What Happened Across The National League On Tuesday?

By Sam Elliott

There was a show of strength from the National League leaders on Tuesday night and plenty more besides.

Torquay United proved they are up for the title fight after coming from behind to win at Wealdstone.

Danny Parish put the Stones ahead but Gary Johnson’s high flyers are made of strong stuff - Billy Waters deadly double arrived in the final half an hour to turn it around. They took the points thanks to his winner with a minute left.

If Waters didn’t turn it on, Sutton United would have topped the table.

They won impressively 1-0 at Woking thanks to ever-reliable midfielder Harry Beautyman.

Bromley are third and are now unbeaten in six as they won very well away from home.

Neil Smith’s on-song side came away from King’s Lynn Town with a 4-1 win and all three points.

What Yeovil fans would give to be in their position - they went down to a fifth home defeat in a row as Eastleigh romped to the points, pictured.

Top scorer Ben House again hit the mark as the Glovers are still winless after another evening to forget at Huish Park.

Solihull Moors have now won five from seven in the National League and put in an impressive display to beat ten-man Hartlepool United 2-0.

Krystian Pearce and Jimmy Ball grabbed the goals as they close the gap on the top seven.

Altrincham put in perhaps their best display of the season as Ritchie Sutton got the winner as the Robins won 1-0 at improving Wrexham.

There was no separating Chesterfield and Aldershot in the 7pm kick-off as James Rowe somehow didn’t get back-to-back wins as the Spireites new manager.

It was a night to forget for those at the top of the National League North.

Gloucester City, AFC Fylde and Kidderminster all failed to win.

The leaders Gloucester were held to a tame 0-0 draw at home to Boston United - but did end their two-game losing run.

AFC Fylde surrendered two home points in a 3-3 draw with brave Bradford PA, while Kettering were too good for Kidderminster, whose great run is over after the 2-0 home loss to the Poppies.

Chester burst into the play-off places - they were the only side in the top half to win.

A 3-0 success over Alfreton Town was sealed by Daniel Elliott, Jamie Morgan and Anthony Dudley.

Guiseley gave their season a huge shot in the arm as they won 2-0 at Spennymoor - Gabriel Johnson made the points safe in time added on for the Lions.

Chorley
and Curzon Ashton couldn’t be separated, and it also ended 1-1 between Leamington and Brackley.

Hampton & Richmond can’t stop scoring - or winning away from home in the National League South.

Gary McCann’s Beavers strolled past Chippenham 3-0 to go fourth days after hitting Billericay for six - it was their fifth away victory in a row.

The game of the night, though, saw Maidstone United underline their improvement by coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 at title chasing Dorking Wanderers.

Joan Luque popped up with a late, late leveller to send the Stones home happy.

James Roberts helped himself to two goals as Oxford City stunned Hungerford Town 4-1.

Tonbridge Angels enhanced their survival chances by beating Concord Rangers 2-0 - the points were secured by Tom Parkinson and Ben Greenhalgh.
