What Happened Across The National League On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

The New Year certainly began with a bang across the National League divisions on Saturday.

The first matches of 2021 didn’t disappoint - and the leaders were left shaken by their south west rivals.

Torquay United missed the chance to take complete control of the division - blowing a lead at Yeovil Town to go home empty handed.

Goals from Josh Neufeville and Luke Wilkinson in the final three minutes sealed a remarkable turn-around.

Stockport County failed to put a little pressure on.

They were the victims of a comeback too as Altrincham bit back to draw 2-2 - the leveller arriving from Ryan Colclough.

Chesterfield fans are wondering what 2021 has in store for them.

James Rowe’s impressive start continued in the snow as a Tom Whelan goal secured a 1-0 win over Solihull Moors.

Aldershot beat rivals Woking for a second time in just over a week.

Ricky Miller’s winner on debut was enough for the Shots to do the double in the Surrey/Hampshire border derby.

Another side getting the bragging rights over their rivals were Boreham Wood, putting three past Barnet in front of the BT Sport cameras.

A Kabongo Tshimanga brace inspired Luke Garrard's men in a ruthless first-half domination, which takes the Wood into the fifth-tier top ten.

Jordan Ngalo scored to secure a 1-1 draw for Weymouth at home to Eastleigh.

Dartford couldn’t regain the National League South leadership - they were held 0-0 at home to Ebbsfleet.

Hampton and Dorking were also unable to take advantage of table toppers St Albans City’s inactivity.

Wes Fogden grabbed a point for Wanderers as Hampton still can’t match their away results at the Beveree.

Havant & Waterlooville came on strong to defeat Hungerford 4-2, Tommy Wright sealed the deal late on.

Chelmsford City fought back from 2-0 down to defeat Braintree 4-2.

A stunning four-goal second half turned things around as the Clarets’ campaign got a much needed boost.

Lewis Simper, meanwhile, got the winner as Concord Rangers won 1-0 at Essex rivals Billericay.

National League North leaders Gloucester City were pegged back by Leamington.

Junior English was again the Brakes main man to seal a 1-1 draw.

AFC Fylde burst into form by taking apart the side who finished 2020 in style. Chorley had no answer as Ben Tollitt slammed in a hat-trick.

Chester are looking strong heading into the New Year - they beat AFC Telford 3-0 as Anthony Dudley scored yet again.

Kidderminster and Hereford played out a 1-1 draw while Shane Byrne’s penalty three minutes from time handed Brackley a point in their 1-1 draw with Kettering.
