What A Fightback! Jansen’s Side Second-Half Stars

Chorley manager Matt Jansen believes his players passed a character test this afternoon.

Trailing 3-1 to in-form Grantham in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy, they put on a super sonic second half display.

The Vanarama National League North side avoided an early exit and although Jansen accepts it was a complete performance, the positives outweighed the negatives.

“It was a great comeback, and credit to the players for that, the club’s manager said.

“We were a little bit disappointed in the manner in which we conceded the goals but we addressed it at half time and second half we were outstanding.

“I’m delighted - Grantham had won seven in a row and lost one in their last 15, so we knew how difficult it was going to be.

“We probably has more chances than they did coming in 3–1 down at half time but we just couldn’t put the ball away.”

Jansen told Chorley’s audioboom service that his player dug themselves out of a hole.

“We shouldn’t have got ourselves into the position we were in but we found a way out and we’re into the next round,” he added.

“Everyone was outstanding in the second half. To come back like we did shows the character we have in the squad.”
